Summer 2026. My soon-to-be-fiance and wife Greta and I went into the Swiss mountains to enjoy a "psytrance" festival for the weekend. I put psytrance in quotes because I am still very new to this world of electronic music and a lot of it all sounds the same to me, although I am learning to parse the differences with more exposure.
It was my first experience at such an event and I left wholesomely impressed with the little world it created for a few short days. In a world absent true connection in a lot of places, it's no wonder people young and old are paying lots of money to flock together like this for days at a time. I'm late to the party! I suppose festivals like this have always existed but I bet they haven't used the word "intentional" or "creating community and culture"ย in their marketing as much as they do now.
It was a blast to feel like you truly stepped into another world for a little while. The support for letting go and having an enjoyable time was palpable and obviously deeply curated from the promoters. I left ready to keep going, eager for the next one.
a 2 hour HOT wait in line to get in. Fun (..?), sort of
our home for the weekend. Super wow
The main sculpture, which was supposed to be part of the "big burn" on the last night. Unfortunately,ย dry conditions and fire restrictions meant we were all disappointed by them canceling it. As you would have it, it rained the day we left and the clean-up crew and staff got to enjoy the burn. Good for them..
